Step 1: The sausage
Visit your IGA butcher to discover a wide variety of ready-to-cook European sausages, from milder flavours like honey and garlic, Toulouse, or cheddar and bacon, to spicier choices like merguez or hot Italian. With such a good variety, there’ll be something to please everyone.
Step #2: The bread
Opt for the classic bread of European hot dogs, a European or ciabatta baguette in white or whole grain. Pitas and flatbread rolled around the sausage are also interesting options.
Step #3: The condiments
Offer your guests a nice choice of mustards: Dijon, whole-grain, honey mustard, or other mustards of your choice. Or for something fresh, offer them tzatziki sauce!
Step #4: The toppings
Sauerkraut is the classic choice, but you can replace it with store-bought coleslaw. Add roasted sweet peppers, pickles or marinated jalapeño peppers, as well as sliced or crumbled cheese. For a garden-fresh version, garnish your hot dog with julienned fruits or vegetables.
Step #5: The beer
So refreshing, beer is the essential accompaniment to European hot dogs! Choose mild, full-bodied, or strong beer depending on the sausage you've chosen. The stronger the sausage, the more flavourful your beer should be!
